What Makes a Good Headshot? Part 2

A Photographer Who Knows What She is Doing!

You want to hire her, don't you?

Stay away from the pretentious; the photographers who make you feel like you're less than. Let me tell you something - you came to LA because you had to; something called you to be a performer, and while so many who are in this business will look down upon you unless you're already famous, everyone has to start somewhere. You're out here as an actor because you're answering your calling.

How incredibly brave and wonderful is that?! You're an artist! You're a creator!

So never, never, work with anyone who makes you feel foolish or like you don't know what you're doing. Taking headshots is really intimidating because so much is riding on getting the right shot, and you need to feel comfortable and free with the person you hired to capture that.
I've got 20 years in the entertainment business, including working as an agent in New York City, so I know what works and what doesn't. Not only do I understand lighting, flattering angles, directing you into a poses that work, digital processing, and retouching, but I also understand what agents and casting are looking for. Plus, I understand why the session was booked in the first place! You either need new photos because your current ones aren't working, or you need to update your photos as you search for new representation. You are always looking for a photo to grab the attention of an agent and casting director!

So take your time, call every photographer you're interested in shooting with, and see if you gel with them. You want to be comfortable in your headshot session so you can really be you. That's who we need to get you know: authentic, sell-able, fun to book, You.
